Small groups & 1-on-1

Raincity prides itself on bringing fitness to people at any level — and Fit Club is an extension of that belief. Every kid deserves to find what 'fit' means to them, and to have fun getting there.

Getting started

Three simple
steps.

Because every kid is different, we start by getting to know yours — then build the right plan together.

  1. Schedule a call

Book a call with head coach Simon (aka Thor) to talk through your family's and your child's needs and goals.

  2. Free 30-min trial

Come in for a free 30-minute session — you and your child meet the coach and play with some of our toys, no pressure.

  3. Ongoing sessions

If we're a match, we begin regular sessions. We start 1-on-1, then pair kids with partners for longer or more frequent sessions at the same price.

Why we usually start 1-on-1

Our goal is always group training — but working with kids of different physical and cognitive abilities can be tough in a large group. We start one-on-one until we fully understand your child's abilities, then aim to pair them with the right training partners so they get more time on the floor for the same price.

The program

An inclusive
fitness community

Raincity Fit Club is dedicated to creating a truly inclusive fitness community. Raincity Athletics and Coach Thor provide an inclusive fitness program designed specifically for special-needs children. Activities are based on proven applied behaviour analysis (ABA) methods, and are aimed at improving health and increasing confidence.

The core value of Fit Club is community. We serve youth ages 8–18 and keep our group sizes small, so every participant gets the support they need — while also benefiting socially and emotionally from connection with the other members.

What makes it work

  • Inclusive by design: kids of all physical and cognitive abilities are welcome.
  • ABA-based: activities built on proven applied behaviour analysis methods.
  • Small groups: we cap group sizes so every kid gets real, hands-on support.
  • A real gym: a fully equipped facility — and a whole lot of fun toys to play with.
  • 1-on-1 to start: we begin private, then pair kids with training partners as they're ready.

Coach Thor

Simon Damborg — aka Coach Thor — is the head coach and owner of Raincity Athletics, home base for the Raincity Fit Club. He's always been passionate about working with kids, which is why he loves being able to bring Fit Club and true inclusion into his gym.

Simon is a registered Behaviour Interventionist, approved by the BC Government to work with kids who have an ASD diagnosis — earned over years of incredible progress and results with the dozens of kids he's worked with. He's also diagnosed and medicated for ADHD, which really helps him understand and connect with neurodivergent youth.

Using your funding?

Simon Damborg is a registered service provider with the British Columbia government and can invoice the province directly for services provided to families (per the terms of each family's service agreement). If you'd like to put your child's ASD or school funding toward their training, just mention it during your initial consultation.

The coaching philosophy

How we
train kids.

Coach Thor's approach is simple: stop teaching exercises, start teaching movement patterns. When the goal is a pattern rather than one specific exercise, every kid — of every ability — has a way in. Here's the thinking behind Fit Club, pulled from a talk Thor gave to Langara's Education Assistant program.

Stop teaching exercises, start teaching patterns — the blueprint for youth fitness that works for every ability level.
The 5 pillars of movement: upper push, upper pull, lower push, lower pull, and vestibular (balance, rolling, jumping — the brain-body connection).
Adaptability is everything: a 'bench press' is rigid and needs equipment, but an 'upper push' can be done anywhere. The best program is the one the kid will actually do.
'I can't do that' becomes 'yes you can': scaling a squat from sit-to-stand up to a goblet squat. Change the movement, keep the pattern.
Stop teaching, start playing: gamify the work so engagement wins. The younger the athlete, the more play-based the session should be.
The minimum effective dose: two 30-minute sessions a week builds real strength and coordination. Consistency beats intensity.
Movement is medicine for autism, ADHD and regulation: physical stress adaptation helps build emotional regulation.
The secret to injury prevention is training the opposite — balancing out whatever sport or pattern a young athlete already does the most.
The 10% rule: do 10% more than you think you can — not to failure — to build confidence without breaking trust.
